What do you think about Shay's description of a model? Shay and Tally have a skewed view of our time, but what have they got right?

I think Shay's description of a model is a little bit over exagerated and i dont think she really knows what shes talking about. The thing that they do have right about our time is that everybody does look the same, and the eating disorders was right too.

Characterization of David:

  1. "He was hardly a pretty."

  2. "His smile was crooked." I chose this picture because it shows how there is no technology and how it is old and decaying.
  3. www.technoccult.net
  4. "His forehead is too high."

  5. "He wears handmade shoes and clothes."

  1. Tally wakes up to find that everything is on fire.
  2. Tally gets caught in the fire caused by the mysterious hovercraft.
  3. She falls in the river and gets saved by the masked/bug-eyed people.
  4. The masked/bug-eyed people explain why they are burning the field of flowers.
  5. The masked/bug-eyed people drop her off at the spot where she is going to get to "smoke."

Respond to the quote:

"Tally was stuck out here in the wild forever. Ugly for life. Her only way home was to betray her friend."

If I were Tally, I would think about what I really wanted and if betraying my friend was worth turning pretty.

Have you ever made yourself do something you didn't want to because you knew you had to?
Yes. I have to get up earlier than I ever have had to before for school. I predict Tally is going to see something that is going to attack her.

The dried food I would take with me would be a Steak N' Bake. This is dried steak, just like beef jerky, in a pack, with a dried baked potato. You would make this by drying steak over a grill, then putting it in a can, and the baked potato you would also dry over the grill.

The things I would miss about my home would be: www.buffalowithwings.com

  1. My friends

  2. Family

  3. House

  4. Good food

  5. Entertainment

  6. My dogs

  7. Bike

  8. Dirt bike

  9. Games

  10. ......and MANY other things....

I think Tally goes to search for Shay because she wants to turn pretty, and she wants Dr. Cable to stop annoying her.

"Everywhere she went, eyes looked away. But it was the most visible she'd ever felt."

This means that wherever she went, people looked away from her because she is an ugly. To her, that was the most visible she had ever felt, this could be because she is never out in public, or it could mean that just being in the presence of people, even though they were looking away was a lot of attention for her.

Tally arrives at Special Circumstances and was greeted by Dr.Cable, who told her about Shay and how she needs to find her friends because she may have been tricked into going there. Tally refuses to rat Shay out. Dr. Cable says that until she deceides too, she wont turn pretty. Tally returns to her dorm very aggravated and confused on what she should do.

Dr.Cable
  • Her eyes were almost as big as a normal pretty's, but angled upward like a wolf.
  • Rude
  • Can be harsh
  • Aqua-line nose
  • Sharp teeth
  • Gray eyes

  • Tally talks to a new ugly about turning pretty.
  • She remembers what Shay told her about the operation and what they do to you.
  • Tally is picked up by a pretty to go to a hospital in New Pretty town
  • She arrives at the hospital and waits patiently
  • A doctor scans her eyes to make sure it is the right person, then tells her to keep waiting
  • Another doctor comes and tells Tally that something is wrong with her operation and that she needs to come with him.

"We dont have to look like everybody else, Tally, and act like everyone else. We've got a choice. We can grow up any way we want" I think this means that you dont have to look and act like everybody else. You can be fine just the way you are.

The first fight is when Tally and Shay pretend to fight to scare the uglies away. Talley pushes Shay down the stairs of the library and then she activates her bungee jacket. The second fight was when shay got mad at Tally when she brought up turning pretty. The differences are that the first fight was fake and the second was on purpose. The similarities are that in both, Shay was acting weird.

"That was one thing about being outside the city: It made all that nature stuff they taught in school seem a lot more useful. She remembered now how the rainwater fell on the mountains and soaked into the ground."
This shows that Tally's city that she lives in doesn't have much forest or nature. There are a lot of buildings and other things that make it so that you cant experience nature or wildlife.

A few hot-air balloons pulled at their tethers against the darkening pink sky, their passengers shooting safety fireworks at other ballons and parasailers.

I think tally chose to wear a mask to the party because she is an ugly and everybody there was a pretty.

"Masks have been used for thousands of years in cultures around the world. Early masks were probally made from local materials." "Harder-to-find, or more precious materials would probally have been used to embelish more important masks in ancient times, as they are now." Over the centuries, masks became associated with religion. Ancient Egyptians considered mummy masks to be an important part of the transition to the afterlife. It is also an object that is frequently worn on the face for disguise, or to hide the identity of a person.

This relates to Tally's decision by how masks are used to hide identity, or disguise someone and that is what she was using it for.

Tally and Shay arrive at the Rusty Ruins. Shay tells Tally about roller coasters and how they work. Shay convinces Tally to ride the exterior of the roller coaster on her hover board for fun. when Talley falls off of her board because of an open gap in the roller coaster, she becomes frightened and stops riding. Shay tells tally there is someone that she wants her to meet, that is out there.

"Every building sported jagged spurs of metal sticking out from its broken walls, like bones jutting from a lone-dead animal." Pg.62

"It was like a hover board course made solid, complete with tight, banked turns, sharp climbs followed by long drops, even loops that took Tally upside down." Pg.64

I think beauty is how people look in the world. If everyone looked the same, then no one would have any unique characteristics about them. The world would be dull and boring.

I would rather know the reality behind everything because I would want to know what was going on and not be fooled and deceived.

In 1811, the first recorded attempt to navigate the Snake River in Wyoming, was planned by the Overland Astorians. The rubber river raft is believed to have been invented in the early 1840's. It was first made by Lt. John Fremont. Rafting was first included into the Munich Olympic Games in 1972.

Peer Pressure: Social pressure by members on one's peer group to take a certain action, adapt certain values, or otherwise conform in order to be accepted.
There was a time when I was with my friends, and we were shooting paintball guns. One of them started putting pressure on the rest of us to aim across the street at my neighbors mailbox, and shoot it. Luckily, I knew that doing that would somehow result in us getting in trouble, or just ending badly, so I said no.

"Making ourselves feel ugly is not fun"... "This whole game is designed to make us hate ourselves"
I think this means that putting yourself down can be hurtful.

"Everyone judged everyone else based on their appearance. People who were taller got better jobs... people killed one another over things like having different skin color."
I think this means that depending on how peoples characteristics are, they are either put down, excluded, or discriminated against.

"It's the only way to make people equal."
I think this means that there is a way to make everybody equal.

Tally just set the alarm off at the party on the roof and then jumped off. Tally meets Shay in New Pretty Town and tells Shay about how she crashed the party. I think Tally and Shay are alike and I think this means they are going to become close friends.

I think New Pretty Town advocates bungee jumping because they just want to have fun.
"Bungee jumping started on April 1st, 1979, when a group of people from Oxford University Dangerous Sports club, were impressed by a film about vine jumpers. They jumped from a 245 foot long suspension bridge in England, using nylon braided rubber shock cord.

  • She is an ugly
  • She is daring

  • Peris is three months older than Tally
  • Is a pretty

I do not think they are best friends because Tally is jealous of Peris because he is a pretrtty and she's not.
